Most of us view Surgery as a last resort,
but sometimes it’s the best option
Surgery can be Scary.
For most people, needing and contemplating surgery are frightening prospects.
The Operating Suite and Hospital environment may be unfamiliar and intimidating.
You may have read conflicting information online, encountered different opinions from various other healthcare providers, or heard “worst case” stories from well-intending people.
You Might Be Asking…
- Do I really need surgery? Is there another option?
- Will it hurt me physically/financially/or otherwise?
- Does my provider See ME and Hear ME as a Unique Individual?
- Can I trust this Surgeon and team?
- I don’t want to give up control . . . how can I maintain my autonomy?
- Will surgery restore my health and Quality of Life? How soon?
I have been in your shoes several times myself.
When health problems arise there is always uncertainty, and whether we like to admit it or not, some level of anxiety.
Having experienced both sides of the proverbial fence, I can truly empathize with you.
I Listen to Understand
“When I meet a new patient, I feel my role is to fully evaluate their presenting problem and generate the safest, most effective options to address the problem at hand. I strive to learn their perspective and history so that I can understand, educate, and reassure them about the steps we need to take together to help them regain their health.”

My Advice to You
1. Do your research.
Learn what you can about the skills of the surgeon.
Most surgeons will pass this test. Then learn what you can about the surgeon as a human being – is this professional relatable, attentive, and in alignment with your values?
2. Follow your instincts.
Choose a surgeon with whom you feel comfortable.
Believe it or not, trust or lack of trust for your provider can dictate your outcomes from medical treatments.
3. Do your part
Advocate for yourself.
Ask the questions you need answered. Make sure you fully understand.
Express how you feel and how you view the situation.
Adhere to recommendations for preparation and recovery.
“I want to see you living fully ASAP!”
