“Every surgery is Major Surgery
when it’s performed on YOU.”

– Dr.P

Most of us view Surgery as a last resort,
but sometimes it’s the best option

Surgery can be Scary.

For most people, needing and contemplating surgery are frightening prospects.

The Operating Suite and Hospital environment may be unfamiliar and intimidating.

You may have read conflicting information online, encountered different opinions from various other healthcare providers, or heard “worst case” stories from well-intending people.

You Might Be Asking…

  • Do I really need surgery? Is there another option?
  • Will it hurt me physically/financially/or otherwise?
  • Does my provider See ME and Hear ME as a Unique Individual?
  • Can I trust this Surgeon and team?
  • I don’t want to give up control . . . how can I maintain my autonomy?
  • Will surgery restore my health and Quality of Life? How soon?

I have been in your shoes several times myself.

When health problems arise there is always uncertainty, and whether we like to admit it or not, some level of anxiety.

Having experienced both sides of the proverbial fence, I can truly empathize with you.

I Listen to Understand

“When I meet a new patient, I feel my role is to fully evaluate their presenting problem and generate the safest, most effective options to address the problem at hand. I strive to learn their perspective and history so that I can understand, educate, and reassure them about the steps we need to take together to help them regain their health.”

My Advice to You

1. Do your research.

Learn what you can about the skills of the surgeon.

Most surgeons will pass this test. Then learn what you can about the surgeon as a human being – is this professional relatable, attentive, and in alignment with your values?

2. Follow your instincts.

Choose a surgeon with whom you feel comfortable.
Believe it or not, trust or lack of trust for your provider can dictate your outcomes from medical treatments.

3. Do your part

Advocate for yourself.
Ask the questions you need answered. Make sure you fully understand.
Express how you feel and how you view the situation.
Adhere to recommendations for preparation and recovery.

“I want to see you living fully ASAP!”

Once again I am overwhelmed by the amazing care I received from Dr Paciulli. She did not do my initial RNY, but as a patient of this group when I went in to the emergency room and found I needed emergency surgery, she took charge. She listened and explained and comforted me at a time that was almost impossible. I cannot thank her enough for her dedication, expertise and just for caring. I could not imagine being in any more capable hands.

Dr. Paciulli is my hero! She was amazing from the first meeting until now. She is a wealth of knowledge and was able to explain every aspect to me in great detail. Her enthusiasm is reassuring and comforting. She has spent the time to listen and work with me both before and since the surgery. She has continued to follow me and my progress since my surgery over a year ago. I would highly recommend her to anyone and everyone. She and her team at the Wentworth-Douglass Bariatric and Weightloss program are second to none! Thank you.

Dr Paciulli performed my Sleeve stomach reduction surgery in July 2020. Both she and all the staff at the Wentworth Douglas Hospital Bariatric Center were excellent. They listened well, answered all my questions, and were patient and kind. No one ever really wants to have surgery, but if you have to, these folks are the best!
